In recognition of the five-year anniversary of Chip Hooper’s passing, we honor his life, talent and spirit with “Early Works.” While the artist is known for his large-scale, pristine, and technically perfect photographs, and before the ocean became a muse, he spent much of his early years (prior to 2000) documenting the American west. His work is featured in many private and public collections including Microsoft, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Art, Monterey Museum of Art, Portland Museum of Art and the Tokyo Photographic Culture Centre.
“The process of creating photographs is a contemplative one. It is an exploration of my feelings as much as it is an exploration of what I am seeing. The best images always happen when what I am feeling becomes one with what I am seeing.” ~ Chip Hooper
